Brown Planthopper (BPH) hotspots in kharif paddy

Paddy Nilaparvata lugens (Brown Planthopper) Andhra Pradesh · Godavari & Krishna districts 02 Jul 2026
high

Hopper burn spots reported in transplanted rice at 50-70 DAT. Dense canopies + urea over-application worsening.

Full IPM management advisory (click to expand) 1. Drain the field for 3-4 days if BPH count >10/hill — kills eggs. 2. Alternate wetting-and-drying is the single biggest agronomic control. 3. Reduce N-urea top-dressing — over-fed rice attracts BPH. 4. If ETL crossed (10-15 hoppers/hill at active tillering, 25-30 at panicle initiation): Pymetrozine 50% WG @ 300g/ha OR Buprofezin 25% SC @ 800ml/ha directed at the base. 5. Conserve mirid bugs + spiders — natural enemies do half the work. 6. Do NOT use synthetic pyrethroids — they cause BPH resurgence.

Anthracnose in chilli — spray window closing

Chilli Colletotrichum capsici (Anthracnose / Fruit Rot) Andhra Pradesh · Guntur & Prakasam 30 Jun 2026
high

Overcast + humid weather driving anthracnose in ripening chilli. Fruit ripe rot 15-25% in unsprayed fields.

Full IPM management advisory (click to expand) 1. Prophylactic spray at flowering: Mancozeb 75% WP @ 2g/L OR Chlorothalonil 75% WP @ 2g/L. 2. Once symptoms visible: Azoxystrobin 23% SC @ 1ml/L OR Difenoconazole 25% EC @ 0.5ml/L — rotate. 3. Pick and destroy infected fruit — do NOT drop in the field. 4. Wider spacing + drip (not flood) — reduce leaf wetness. 5. Post-harvest: shade-dry properly. Wet-drying = anthracnose in storage. 6. Avoid Carbendazim — resistance is widespread.
